Voter’s Meeting – Voter’s Meeting will be on Sunday January 26, 2020, following worship. We will vote on the 2020 Congregational Budget and discuss other important matters of Advent Lutheran Church. Additionally, we will vote on an LC-MS (Our national Church body) Constitutional Amendment.

Abundant Joy’s next “Basic Peer Counseling Training” begins Feb. 11, 2020 – This 12-week training equips women to serve as peer counseling volunteers and/or group facilitators.  If you have a personal relationship with Jesus, listen well, if you are actively engaged in a local church and are interested in encouraging others in their faith journey, contact Lynn Trogdon at abundantjoycwm@gmail.com or 919-943-0789 for more details and to set up an interview. Policy for canceling worship due to inclement weather or other emergency: The Pastor will confer with the President, the Chair of the Board of Worship, and an Elder to reach a decision about cancellation of a Worship service or other event. If the event is cancelled, the congregation will be informed by email no later than two hours before the event is scheduled to begin. The office manager will set up a phone tree to call all members who do not use email as soon as the decision is made and will notify local ABC & NBC television stations. The announcement will also be posted on the Advent website and Facebook as soon as possible. If a service is not cancelled and someone feels unsafe driving, they are encouraged to stay home.

We invite you to celebrate with us this Advent and Christmas Season

“Arise, shine, for your light has come” (Isaiah 60:1) In this year’s Advent and Christmas series, we welcome the Christ Child, who is the light of the world, arising in our lives this season. In celebration, we, in turn, shine with the light of Christ in various ways for all the world to see the brightness of His love. Each week will focus on a different aspect of the light of Christ and how we are enlightened by Him throughout our lives.

Advent Week 4 – Sunday, Dec. 22: Eternal Light (Daniel 12:3) – We look forward to Jesus’ Second Advent, when we will be raised in glory to live in His presence and shine like stars forever. Come, Lord Jesus! Christian Education at 9:15 a.m., Worship Service at 10:30 a.m.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service – Tuesday, Dec. 24, 7:00 p.m.: Shining Light (Genesis 1:3) – On this night we celebrate that Jesus, the Light of the world, lies in a manger in Bethlehem. He is our Shining Light; the Light no darkness can overcome.

Christmas Day Services: We will not be having a Christmas Day service. Area Lutheran churches that will be having services include: Grace, Durham – 10:30 a.m.; Our Savior, Raleigh – 11:00 a.m.; Resurrection, Cary – 10:00 a.m.

May the HOPE of salvation, Jesus Christ, shine through you.
May God’s PEACE be made known in you and in our world.
May the JOY of knowing Jesus be in the words you speak, the songs you sing.
And, may the LOVE of God overflow in your heart.

Installation Service: The Rev. Dr. Jonathan Blanke will be installed as the Pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church, 100 W Lochmere Dr., Cary on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Members of Advent, you are invited.

Blessings Bags: Last week Pastor blessed the 84 care kits you helped create to share with homeless people you encounter in your community. We encourage you to take a couple of bags to keep in your car and be prepared to help.

Women of Advent: The Women of Advent will hold their annual Christmas Brunch on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Carolyn Hinkle. All women and guests of Advent are invited to attend. Abundant Joy, CWM will be offering the following groups beginning in January.

  • Philippians Bible Study (8 weeks) Tuesday evenings January 14-February 24, from 6:30-8:30 pm. No cost
  • The Anger Workbook (13 weeks) Thursday mornings January 18-April 9, from 10 a.m.- noon. Cost $10
  • It’s Okay Not to be Okay; Moving Forward One Day at a Time (9 weeks) Wednesday mornings January 22-March 18. Cost $7.00

Blessing the “Blessings Bags”: Thanks again to all who donated items for our “Blessings Bags” and helped fill them last Sunday. After worship this Sunday, Pastor Scott will bless the bags on display in the Fellowship Hall. You will be invited to take a couple of bags to keep in your car and share with homeless individuals.

Christmas Cards to Your Advent Family: A small tree has been set up in the Narthex to display your cards. Please send or bring your cards and put them on or near the tree.

Help Fill “Blessings Bags” After Worship: Thank you again for donating items to fill care kits for homeless people we meet in our communities. During the fellowship hour this Sunday, December 1, you and your children are invited to help fill bags with donated toiletries, snacks, gloves and hats, socks, etc. Please join us!

Christmas Cards to Your Advent Family: Bring a Christmas card from your family to your Advent family and post it for all to enjoy on a special display at Advent.

Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Please join us to thank God for everything He has given us.

Stewardship – Advent’s November focus has been “30 Days of Thankfulness: Empowered by Grace,” Commitment Sunday is this Sunday, November 24. Using our time, talent and treasures for God’s purpose is a natural outcome of being thankful for all that God does for us.

Blessing Bags – Another Outreach Opportunity: Our Thanks-Giving Tree is set up in the Narthex to call attention to items needed to fill Blessings Bags, care kits to give homeless people we encounter. Our goal is to fill 100 bags so each Advent family will have several to share. Please note the sample bag, select tags from the tree, and return your items (with the tags) by November 24. We are planning a packing party after worship on December 1. Yes, let’s include the children at every level! This activity is also supported by a $250 Thrivent grant. Christmas Decorating: The Sanctuary will be decorated for Christmas on Saturday, November 30, at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to help. We also need a few helpers to set up the tree ahead of time, sometime after the Thanksgiving Service on Nov. 26.

Thank you, Thrivent: Thrivent Financial has recently supported three Advent Outreach activities with $250 cash grants for “Trunk or Treat,” “Share the Warmth,” and “Blessings Bags.” Thrivent has sent us t-shirts to thank YOU for your participation and support for our Outreach activities. 15 November 2019 – Advent Announcements

Yard Clean Up: Tomorrow, Saturday, November 16 at 9:00 a.m. there will be an outside yard clean-up to prepare the grounds for winter. Lunch will be served. See Paul Simis for more information.

30 Days of Thankfulness – Advent’s November focus, “30 Days of Thankfulness: Empowered by Grace,” includes our stewardship emphasis beginning November 17. Commitment Sunday follows on November 24. Using our time, talent and treasures for God’s purpose is a natural outcome of being thankful for all that God does for us. We pray that you will participate in our worship services and Bible studies.
